Alerts and email

What bananana.dev watches, when it emails, what each alert means and how to fix it, and how to turn emails on or off.

bananana.dev checks the brain and every device all the time. When something crosses a line, it becomes an alert: shown on the Overview, the Alerts page and the Company overview, and emailed.

Two alerts active: a firewall profile off on RECEPTION-01 and old definitions on PRIYA-PC.

Every alert, what it means, and the fix

AlertStarts whenMeansFix
Disk fullA disk on the brain reaches 90% (clears below 85%).When it fills, databases and logs stop writing and services fail.Run the Disk cleanup and Docker prune automations; find big folders with du -xh --max-depth=1 / | sort -h | tail.
Running hotA sensor stays at 85 °C or more for a minute (clears below 80 °C).Sustained heat slows the machine and wears the hardware.Check Processes for a runaway program; check fans, vents and dust.
Website downTwo health checks in a row fail (about ten minutes).Visitors see an error. 502: the program behind it isn't answering; 503: overloaded or restarting; 404: nothing at that address.Open Websites; restart the container on the Docker page and read its logs. If every site is down, check the tunnel and internet.
Backup missing or failedNo good nightly backup for 36 hours. If the disk failed now, recent changes would be lost.In the Terminal: systemctl --user status bananana-portal-backup.service; start one with systemctl --user start bananana-portal-backup.service.
Real-time protection offDefender isn't scanning files as they open, and no other antivirus is active.New malware isn't blocked as it arrives.Device › Security › Turn real-time protection on.
Old definitionsDefender's definitions are more than 3 days old.It can miss recent threats. Usually the PC was off, or Windows Update is stuck.Device › Security › Update definitions.
Defender found …A detection in the last 7 days."Quarantined", "removed", "cleaned" = handled; "allowed", "failed", "detected" = may still be there.Read the details on the Security tab and run a full scan.
Firewall profile offA Windows firewall profile (Domain, Private or Public) is turned off.The PC accepts connections it would normally block.Device › Security › turn that profile on.
No antivirusDefender is off and no other antivirus is registered.Nothing is protecting the PC.Restart it if another antivirus was just removed; otherwise turn Defender on.

Device alerts only come from fresh readings: a computer that's been off for days doesn't keep raising them.

Emails

Each alert is emailed once when it starts, once when it clears, and once a day while it lasts. Several changes at once go in one email. At most ten emails go out an hour; anything held back is mentioned in the next one. Every email gives, for each alert, what it means, what to do, and a link that opens the right page.

Automation results are emailed too, when an automation has an email step or asks for failure emails: each device's steps, the error, what it means and what to do, the last lines of output, and a link to the run.

Who gets them, and turning them off

Alert emails go to every account with a password, unless a list of addresses is set. On the brain, an administrator can run python3 ~/bananana/portal/configure_integrations.py alerts off (or on, or test to send a test). Emails come from [email protected].
